While reading another blog recently I noticed a post about the blog's anniversary. It hadn't occurred to me that a blog would have one but of course, just about everything has one - books, movies, world events - and I set out to find the anniversary date for my blog - January 30, 2007. So today, it's 7 years old.
The blog was an extension of a family newsletter I had started about 10 years before. I found I was writing letters more & more often to family members and developed the newsletter so I wouldn't be re-telling the same events to five (or six or ten or more) people (the newsletter grew to include friends as well as family members). I always included a personal note with the newsletter.
When I learned about blogging I gave up the newsletter - sort of - I tried an email version but had not found the software & services that make that simple. A friend suggested blogging so I jumped in.
I have not been as faithful about keeping up regular posts as I might - I started a second blog focused on food, cooking & restaurants and Facebook kind of took over as my means of contact with friends & family. I guess the blog kind of got shoved aside.
I still prepare & mail the newsletter but only at holiday time (read Christmas), along with my Christmas cards. It was never the sort of newsletter that mentioned accomplishments and challenges of the previous year - rather it included a Christmas or childhood memory, generally a craft project and a recipe (and a quote appropriate to the newsletter's content).
For now, I guess I'll keep up with what I have been doing and maybe will renew my commitment to blogging - but for today, I'll just say Happy Anniversary and thanks for reading.
